Barf....

Not sure what I did to deserve getting a stomach virus on top of Pleurisy?!? Yesterday most of my evening was spent in the bed trying to control my gag reflex. I can not describe to you how awful it is to, umm, vomit whilst having what feels like broken ribs. Totally. Not. Fun. Totally. NOT.

I'm thinking said stomach bug could be blamed on the nine, yes nine, people who had it at work last week!

Today, I have spent all day in bed watching America's Next Top Model marathon on Bravo (season 5, I think) and downing Motrin and Phenergan. Thank the Good Lord for Phenergan!! I can only take a half of one because it makes me loopy.

Hot Police Boy brought more Gator-aid (lemon-lime only please), and a new heating pad for me. Awww! I really wanted to get out of the apartment for just a bit tonight and was starting to feel a little better. I was also a little hungry. So I showered, got ready and went with HPB to Ruby Tuesdays. I only had a plain baked potato and tea. I felt a lot better after I ate.

Currently, I'm back in my bed with a heating pad, more Gator-aid and watching a marathon of CSI: Miami.

I should buy stock in Gator-Aid. For realz.

Layed up....

Yep, that's me. So for a few weeks now I've had a persistent cough that has been driving me nuts. My mom is a nurse at an ENT's office so I went to see him and he gave me some meds, blah blah. Well, thanks to the coughing I have now developed Pleurisy.

I've had it once before and it sucked then, and it sucks now. I left work 8 hours early tonight because I just couldn't get comfortable no matter what I did. I came home and.....cleaned. Yeah, I cleaned my bedroom and bathroom from top to bottom because I know that my pleurisy is getting worse and I wanted to be able to rest in a super clean room this weekend. OCD is a bi*ch :) I think I may have overdone it and probably shouldn't have been cleaning at all.

I am now on an antibiotic and a really strong cough medicine. My left side feels like I have about 3 broken ribs and coughing is excruciating. It hurts to breath. The worst is trying to get out bed. I kind of have to roll and pull myself up by wrapping my arms around my knees. You're laughing right? Ya know how when you aren't supposed to do something, you feel like you just have to? Well, that's how it is with the coughing. I keep feeling like I need to cough, but it hurts too much.

But, I don't feel sick at all, I just have some seriously painful ribs.

If you need me this weekend....I'll be right here. In bed, with a stack of movies, a ton of Gator-aid, a heating pad and of course my Blackberry (you knew that though, right?).

Ouch.....

Thankful Thursday....

Today, I'm thankful for:

Phone calls with my mom every morning on my way home from work.

Eggs and fried hot dog weenies for breakfast :) (I know, I know...)

My job. Seriously, I say it all the time, but it deserves repeating.

The fact that I'm off this weekend! YAY!

Great friends who love me no matter what.

My beautiful, sweet, angelic, perfect, yummy smelling nephews!

My daddy, who worries if I haven't called him by 5pm every day.

Rainy days like today.

And last but not least.....this freaking new Blackberry. It's sick (in a good way)!

Just sayin'...

The Blackberry Curve is the most addicting "techno-toy" I've ever held in my hands!
I may never get
anything done again.
Ever.

U.F.G.D. *again*

Remember my U.F.G.D post? Yeah, well today is one of those days. My hair looks like straight shizz, my skin looks like that of an alligator, and I swear to god my jeans took me 5 minutes to button--all the while sucking in, jumping up and down and cursing. A lot.

Gah, I've done a lot of bitchin' lately huh? I'll try to remedy that. Pronto.

Ummmm.....Seriously?

I worked all weekend. Friday through Sunday. 36 hours total. I maybe got 15 hours of sleep all weekend. Today, I come home, have breakfast, get in snuggly PJ's and crawl in my smooshy bed. Out. Like a light. I was dreaming of the beach.

Until....I woke up a mere 3 hours later. Rudely awakened. To the heavy stench of gasoline. As if someone had poured it all over me. And the incredibly LOUD sound of a chainsaw right outside my open window.

I guess today was National Trim The Shrubs Day and I missed the memo.

So, I waited. Until there was dead silence. Made eye contact with Mr. National Trim the Shrubs Day and slammed my window with all the force I could muster. Seriously, my middle finger had a major itch. I, being the Southern lady that I am, did not scratch that itch.

Until I closed the blinds. No one could see me, but it made me feel better anyway. Sort of.

Now, my room smells like an Exxon station, dust is floating in the air and I'm one grouchy, sleepy, Southern chick who just flipped off a man with a chainsaw. After I closed the blinds?

I think I need a day job.

Big Softie....

I caved. I bought it....well, ordered it online. Yes, that dang pink Blackberry. This thing better be the most fabulous, amazing piece of technology I've ever held in my hot little hands! Hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

Yes, I'm back together with Verizon. However, he's still on my sh*t list, and shall remain there for a long, long time. I hold grudges.

The suck=

Verizon Wireless. Yep, that's right if I weren't stuck in a stupid contract until January of 2010 I would be happily divorcing Verizon right now (and asking for alimony from the greedy bastard).

Here's why:

I finally decided that The Pink Owl needed a pink Blackberry Curve. I've been wavering on this for months now and decided it was time. So, I was going to add a line and get the freaking BB already. But.....nooooooooo.

1. The Blackberry Curve was 79.99 two days ago, now....it's 99.99
2. Ok, fine, I'll pay that.
3. Clicks "add a line" on the Verizon website.
4. It doesn't work.
5. The stupid website has been down for 2 damn days now.
6. I get the bright idea to go to the Verizon store.
7. What the hell was I thinking?
8. I sign in.
9. I browse the store.
10. I wait
11. I wait some more.
12. I get pissed and wait some more.
13. Two people I've arrested before come into the store.
14. I decided I don't like the company and leave.
15. 45 minutes WASTED.
16. I come home attempt to "add a line" again online.
17. Nope, no dice.
18. I look at my phone (the cute little Samsung Alias that I've never had one minutes trouble from) and decide I'm gonna keep loving him.
19. So, screw you Verizon, your crappy customer service, your cute pink Blackberry and your broke-down, cracked out website. We're DONE.
20. This is our official separation. Beginning today.
21. We will be officially divorced on January 29th 2010.
22. I give you permission to date others.
23. Don't call me, I'll call you.
24. Oh yeah, PS....you SUCK.

Peace.

Today, I'm loving....

Toasted Rice Cereal (the Wal-Mart generic brand thankyouverymuch).

Ice cold Coke in a glass bottle. Nothing compares.

The smell of Gain laundry detergent (gotta be the original scent). Seriously, they should bottle the scent and sell it at Sephora. I'd buy it. For realz.

Joico K-Pac conditioner. It is simply amazing! Worth every penny (and so is the reconstructor).

The Brown Street Club (because me and my girlfriends are going there tonight for dinner and drinks)! The food there is delicious! Hmmm....what to wear?

My mom and dad for renting a fabulous beach house for us this summer! Mom, dad, brother, SIL, me, HPB and my nephews--we're all going!

The Today Show. I adore Matt Lauer.

What are you loving today?

Chicken Salad and Guacamole....Mmmmmm!

Sorry I'm a little late in posting these recipes, but I sure have been enjoying both of these! The chicken salad is divine and the guacamole is so good I had some for breakfast yesterday!

**Disclaimer: I SUCK at writing recipes out so if this is whack, I'm apologizing in advance. Ok? Ok.

Chicken Salad:

1 Traditional Rotisserie Chicken (from the grocery store or wherever has them). Take the skin off and shred the meat. Allow to cool completely in the fridge before adding any other ingredients.

1 cup (or more if you like) of seedless grapes (green or red) cut in halves.

1 cup of diced celery

1 small bag of chopped pecans

salt and pepper to taste

Mayonnaise. This is where you decide how much you like in you CS. I don't like mine to be super mayonnaise-y so I probably use 1/2 cup or less.

**This recipe can be modified however you choose. You can take away ingredients you don't like. It's very good with 1/2 cup of chopped apples too! Enjoy!

Guacamole:

4 small or 2 large avocados

the juice of 1/2 of a lime

1 teaspoon of minced garlic (optional)

1 teaspoon of salt (more if you prefer)

1/2 teaspoon of pepper (again, more if you like)

1/3 cup of chopped yellow onion

1 teaspoon of olive oil

fresh cilantro

Cut avocados in half, remove pit and spoon out the avocado into a medium sized bowl. Mash avocado (I use a potatoe masher) to your preferred consistency (I like mine to be chunky). Add garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil, onion, and lime juice. Fold in. With kitchen scissors cut the cilantro into small pieces into the guac using as much or as little as you like. Fold this in as well.

**I love cilantro, but some people think it tastes like dish soap. I agree if too much is used, so I start with a little and add until I get it right. I like to eat this with Sun Chips ;)

Let me know if you love these (or hate them--I won't be mad atcha)!

Smooches,
K~

This weekend flew by. Damn. I hate when my weekends off go by so fast. HPB and I had a wonderful Valentine's dinner at Saskatoon! I had Elk filet and it was nothing short of amazing! However, the Buffalo tenderloin on the appetizer sampler they served us was to die for as well. I am a very adventurous eater so I was up for trying anything. HPB stuck with the steak.

I didn't get my Nike's that I posted about because I can't find them in my size. I didn't want to order them online because I didn't want to wait on them or pay shipping. So, I've got the sports store near my apartment having them delivered to their store for me. I can't wait to get to the gym today! I'm surprised at how much I look forward to going. Although, it helps that I have friends to go with. We encourage each other and have a great time rocking out to my I-pod. Somehow, I became the designated "Playlist Maker". I can hook my I-pod into the sound system at our gym which is cool.

It's back to work tonight for me, so I'm going to bed now. I've spent the past four hours cleaning my apartment and planning out my menu for the week. I made some homemade chicken salad that is amazing and some homemade guacamole!! It is soooo good! The chicken salad is my mom's recipe and it has grapes and pecans in it. I could seriously eat the entire container, but I have to restrain myself! If you want the recipe to either the chicken salad or guacamole, let me know and I'll share them tomorrow.

Have a wonderful President's Day!!

Catch me if you can....

I'm back in the gym! It's been a while but it feels good to be back in there. The added energy I have after a hard workout amazes me. We have a shiny, new gym at the Sheriff's Office where I work to use whenever we want. So, me and group of co-workers have been going in the morning at 6am when we get off. I've been looking forward to going each day, despite the sore muscles. Yay me!

So, my Valentine's present to myself is gonna be these and this:
Hot Police Boy has this type of running shoe and he loves it (I bought them for him). As a former avid runner, I'm excited about getting back into it! HPB and I are going to start training for a 5K. God help me.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday The 13th and a very happy Valentine's Day!

Yo!

ETA: Please, please, if you pray, pray for this family. Their beautiful 10 month old daughter passed away on Sunday.

Hi peeps! I'm back and happy! This warm, sunshiny weather was just what I needed. I'm getting excited for Valentine's Day! Hot Police Boy and I are going to Saskatoon! It's a beautiful little restaurant in Greenville. The inside looks like a ski lodge and is so warm and cozy! I made reservations a month ago as they book up very quickly. They have a Pre Fixe menu on Valentine's day that includes appetizer, salad, entree, dessert and a bottle of wine. They specialize in wild game. I had kangaroo there once and it was delicious! Sounds gross, but it's really, really good. I already have my outfit planned out as well! What are your Valentine's plans, if you celebrate it?

Today, HPB and I are going to enjoy the warm weather and walk around in downtown Greenville after a leisurely breakfast at......you guessed it, Cracker Barrel!!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

Oh bother....

Why, oh why has a gray cloud settled over my head? I am feeling so out of sorts and blah. I have absolutely NO reason to feel this way. I'm just feeling....sad. Really, really sad. I'm going to the gym to, hopefully, walk off this funk on the treadmill......

Pepe' Le Pew....

Thanks for the Blackberry advice! I'm not sure if I'm gonna get one yet or not, as I'm being really good about saving money right now and I don't really need it--it's just a want. I'll keep you posted.

Last night I went and picked up dinner for Hot Police Boy and myself and hung out at his apartment for a while. The boy was cleaning his apartment for a change, so I just kept quite and watched TV. Didn't want to jinx the miracle that was happening right before my very eyes! :)

I came home around 2am and as I was walking to my apartment I heard something in the woods. It sounded like a person walking around and I instinctively reached for my side where my service weapon would be, but then realized I wasn't in uniform. Shiz.

So, I picked up the pace and made it to the bottom of the stairs and looked back in the direction of the woods and out walks........a freaking SKUNK! Oh emm gee, I almost peed my pants! It saw me, turned around, raised it's tail and I froze, bracing for the worst. The skunk froze and I didn't want to make a move or a sound because I did NOT want to get sprayed. Can you even imagine?!?

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity the little thing toddled back the edge of the woods and turned around to stare at me. I slowly made my way to my apartment door and.....my dang key wouldn't go into the lock!!!!!!! The skunk had made it's way back to the sidewalk and was standing at the bottom of the stairs and I was about to hyperventilate. It was making a weird growl-y noise?? I just knew that creepy thing was gonna high tail it up the stairs and bite me or spray me. So, I was trying to struggle quietly with the key and it wasn't working.

Then...success!

I got in and was shaking like a leaf! For a police chick I'm a big frady cat when it comes to wild animals. They ain't my thang. For realz.

I still have the shivers.

Help....

Ok, so I need some help/advice/tips about.....the Blackberry.

I'm seriously considering getting one, but here's what I want to know:

1. Curve or Pearl (it WILL be pink, of course)!
2. Can I send and receive video messages (with my nephews always doing something cute this is a requirement).
3. Anything else you can add that will sway me one way or the other. Good, bad, ugly...let me have it. ;) Is it really worth it?

Thanks in advance!

List....

A list of some things I'm loving right now:

1. My pink IPOD! This thing gets me through the bad days. I'm a musician at heart, and love all types of music--from rousing gospel choirs to the raunchiest booty-shakin' rap. I can't help it, it's in my blood. I definitely dance like a white girl, but I like to shake my groove thang whenever I can. :) I'm currently listening to P.A.S.S.I.O.N by Rhythm Syndicate and Ace of Base's Greatest Hits. Remember these?
**(Oh, and thanks to my little brother who loaned me his collection of over 200 CD's last night at our Super Bowl get together....he has a rockin' collection of monster ballads and the song count on my lil IPOD is well over 1000 now).

2. Fruity Pebbles cereal. I know, I know....it's horrible for me. Pure sugar. I love it!

3. My laptop. Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without it. Well, scratch that. I'd get housework done, be more productive, sleep more, and generally have a hell of lot more time. Oh well....

4. My bedroom. It's my sanctuary and it's peaceful, calm and smells really good. Like Hazelnut coffee candles. Could be because I have a million of them in there.

5. Burt's Bees Radiance Lip Shimmer! These little things are amazing. Try one!
**FYI, the entire Radiance line by Burt's Bees is fantastic. I have recently changed my entire skincare routine to this line and the difference in my skin is worth the price of the products.

6. Red Box. Have ya'll rented movies from this piece of pure genius?!? Only $1 and you don't have to deal with a snarky Blockbuster cashier (if you work at BB, sorry. You are probably super sweet. The ones around here? Yeah, notsomuch).

7. Halfhourmeals.com! This site is great for quick, healthy meals on the cheap!!

8. And our sweet blog friend: G.R.I.T.S. She's proven by her most recent post that she's one of the classiest Southern women around.

That's it for now....have a wonderful week, ya'll!

Smooches,
K!
