Going Private....Maybe?

I don't want to.

I know I would lose readers.

Due to a rather startling discovery early this morning, I feel like I have no choice.

I know that having a blog kind of "puts me out there".

Due to my job, I try to be as anonymous as possible, which I why I don't put pictures of me on here (the one that was here, has been removed).

But, I do want to be able to share my thoughts with people who I consider friends now. Blogging is very therapeutic.

I do want to hear what YOU have to say about what I write.

But, I don't want people reading this blog, who are just doing so to gather information and relay it to certain people who are forever in my past.

I'm genuinely torn about what to do. I really want to go back and delete my blog posts, but I want to keep them. Is there a way to export it to somewhere for safe keeping?

Social media today is a double edged sword isn't it? It's hard to know exactly WHO is following you, reading what you write and it's impossible to know what they do with the information they get.

I used to think I was pretty damn good at being private and careful with what I put "out there", and who I allowed to see it, when I have control over it.

Apparently not.

You can take your old posts & save them as a draft. They are not deleted but are simply stored as a draft.

So instead of selecting "publish now", you just "save as draft". It's easier to do from your dashboard.

...and if you do go private - I'd love an invite! I love your blog!

Oh your blog is so cute -- I hope you decide not to go private! But its totally understandable if you do if there is someone out there using your blog to get information about you. Like you say, the whole social networking scene can be very scary.

Been there done that....but totally understand. I haven't blogged in ages (for some of these same kind of reasons) and just started to get it back up and running too.

Do what you have to do....if you do go private....don't forget to send out invites ;)

I don't know what to tell you because I don't know your story and I can't imagine people wanting to use what you say on your blog against you! Maybe I'm too old and jaded and simply don't care about what people say about me. But honey, you've got to do what makes YOU feel safe. I like your blog and would love to stay with you. So, I guess all that's left is for you to ask yourself: WWTD (What would Tom do?)

If you do go private I would love an invite. I hope that things turn out the way that you feel is best.

I'm sorry that you're going through that! I went private early with blogging because I didn't want my students finding my pictures or the details of my life. I feel very safe knowing that I have control over who reads what I write!

Obviously, I understand! My blog is and always will be private, because with google...anyone could find my blog and read it! I understand where you are coming from, but if you do go private -- I would love an invite!

I know exactly how you feel! I keep toying with the same thing. No pictures or real names on here for me because of my job, too.

It's such a tough decision to make, but I'll be reading either way!!

Ohhh my little pink owl...you know I have the same issue..

I think the doors are closing tighter and tighter on us...I'm having a complete freak out about this right now. I've told you that.

That's why I won't use my picture on my Twitter avatar. I got asked about that last night if I'm ever going to use my picture. One of my bloggy friends said, "No, Julie has integrity. She won't use her picture on Twitter and she won't blog about her job".

You know I want that invite if you go private!!! I will stalk you from my damn iPhone.

aw girl, I definitely understand wanting to go private - it's why I'm hesitant about posting too much info or pictures of me, incase someone comes across it...

what happened?

also, if you decide to go private, ask people for their emails so you can keep them? not sure if you go private if you lose all the people already following you. I wish there was a way for people to go private and for people to be able to send emails to ask to request to review the blog!

do whatever is best for you. privacy is key...and you don't want people you don't want to see your blog to be able to view it!

I worry about the same thing. It IS a double edged sword! I'd hate to see you go, but would understand! As long as you stay on twitter though. Ha Ha!
